Upland is old California — historic downtown, citrus-grove roots, tree-lined streets, and homes with real back lots. It's also foothill-hot in summer, and a lot of those beautiful older yards have no usable shade at all. A custom aluminum cover adds the outdoor room these houses were always missing, in colors and styles that respect the home's character.
At JAM Construction Patios, owners Samer Numan and Justin McDaniel build every cover themselves. We're licensed California contractors, and we don't use subcontractors on any job, Upland included. You deal with the owners from the first phone call to the last walkthrough.
Cover types and pricing (per square foot):
• Flat pan (non-insulated): $27/sq. ft. — full shade, rain protection, lowest cost
• Lattice: $29/sq. ft. — filtered light, bright and open
• Insulated (IRP): $35/sq. ft. — coolest, quietest, most finished look
Projects start at a $3,000 minimum. Finish the build with recessed lights ($100 each), a ceiling fan install ($200 — you supply the fan), GFCI outlets ($150), post lights ($150), or a switch/dimmer ($100).
Upland requires permits for most patio covers. Our permit service is $600 plus city fees, and we handle the drawings, submittal, and inspections.
Will a modern aluminum cover look right on an older Upland home?
Yes — that's a design conversation we have at every estimate here. Colors and finishes pair well with craftsman and ranch styles, and lattice in particular suits Upland's classic look while keeping the space bright.
How much does a typical cover cost?
A common 12 x 20 insulated cover (240 sq. ft.) runs $8,400 for the cover itself; flat pan at the same size is $6,480. Your free estimate gives you exact numbers for your yard.
