Shade That Still Lets the Light In
A lattice patio cover is built from crisscrossed aluminum slats on top of a frame instead of a solid roof. You get real shade — usually half to three-quarters of the direct sun blocked — but light and air still move through it. The result is a patio that feels bright and open, not dark and closed in.
At JAM Construction Patios, we build lattice covers from aluminum with an Alumawood-style finish, so you get the warm look of painted wood without the upkeep. We are the builders, not salesmen — Samer Numan and Justin McDaniel, the licensed owners, measure, build, and install every cover ourselves. No subcontractors, ever.
Why Homeowners Choose Lattice
Filtered light. Lattice takes the edge off the midday sun while still letting daylight reach your patio and the windows behind it. Your kitchen and living room don't go dark the way they can under a solid cover.
Airflow. Because the top is open, hot air rises and escapes instead of getting trapped underneath. On a breezy evening, a lattice patio stays noticeably more comfortable than a solid roof.
The look. Lattice has a classic pergola feel that works with almost any home style, from older Riverside ranch houses to newer builds.
Zero-maintenance material. The aluminum slats won't rot, warp, crack, or attract termites, and the finish holds up through Inland Empire summers.
Who Lattice Is For
Lattice is the right call if you love being outside but want the harshest sun taken down a notch — morning coffee, plants that need some light, a patio used in the shoulder hours. If you need complete rain protection or total shade, look at our insulated or flat pan covers instead — we'll tell you honestly which one fits your yard.
Pricing
Lattice covers are $29 per square foot, with a $3,000 project minimum.
- 10 x 20 (200 sq. ft.): $5,800
- 12 x 20 (240 sq. ft.): $6,960
That's the cover, built and installed by us. Free in-person estimates — we measure your space and give you an exact price before you commit to anything.
Options and Add-Ons
- Recessed lights: $100 each
- Ceiling fan installation: $200 (you supply the fan)
- GFCI outlet: $150 each
- Post light: $150 each
- Switch or dimmer: $100 each
Lights tucked into the framing turn the patio into an evening space, and a fan keeps air moving on still summer nights.
Permits
Many cities require a permit for a patio cover. If yours does, we offer a full permit service for $600 plus city fees — we handle the paperwork, drawings, and inspections.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a lattice cover keep rain off my patio?
Not fully. Lattice filters sunlight; rain passes through the open slats. If rain protection matters, choose a solid cover — insulated or flat pan.
How much sun does lattice actually block?
Depending on the slat spacing, roughly 50–75%. We'll show you the options at your estimate so you can pick the amount of shade that feels right.
How long does installation take?
Most lattice covers go up in a few days once materials are ready, and since we do the work ourselves, the timeline we give you is one we control.
