San Bernardino summers are serious — long stretches over 100 degrees, with the foothill neighborhoods baking in direct sun most of the day. Older homes across the city, from the streets below Arrowhead to the neighborhoods off Highland Avenue, often have wide back patios that go completely unused from late spring through fall. A well-built aluminum cover gives that space back.
JAM Construction Patios builds custom covers throughout San Bernardino, and the owners do the work themselves. Samer Numan and Justin McDaniel are licensed California contractors — we measure, build, and install every project in-house. No subcontractors, no sales crew. We are the builders, not salesmen.
Cover types and pricing (per square foot):
• Flat pan (non-insulated): $27/sq. ft. — full shade, best value
• Lattice: $29/sq. ft. — filtered light, classic pergola look
• Insulated (IRP): $35/sq. ft. — coolest underneath, quiet in the rain
Projects start at a $3,000 minimum. Popular add-ons: recessed lights $100 each, fan installation $200 (you supply the fan), GFCI outlets $150, post lights $150, and switches/dimmers $100.
San Bernardino requires permits for most patio covers. Our permit service is $600 plus city fees, and we handle the paperwork, drawings, and inspections ourselves.
Can a cover handle the wind that comes through the Cajon Pass area?
Yes — when it's engineered and anchored properly. Our covers are built to code with footings and fastening suited to local wind conditions, and every build is backed by our 10-year craftsmanship warranty.
My house is older — can a cover still attach to it?
In most cases, yes. At your free estimate we'll check your roofline, fascia, and wall structure and tell you honestly whether an attached cover works or a freestanding design fits better.
